The 8 biggest lessons I learned this year
One of the biggest lessons I learned this year is that there is no such thing as “a perfect time to do something”. If I wait for the right moment to do something or make changes in my life, it might never come. And even if it does, I may not be ready for it.
As Hamlet says, “There’s a time for everything” – meaning that there is always a time and place for everything in life. It doesn’t matter when or where you are; what matters is that you are doing what you need to be doing at that moment.
Below are the 8 lessons I learned this year.
#1. I don’t think it’s so much about what you know, as who you know.
It is not always about who you know, but what you know. However, if you know the right people, they will help you in ways that someone with more experience or knowledge cannot.
#2. It is not necessarily the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.
“Survival of the fittest” is an apt descriptor for what we see in evolution and natural selection. Species which can best adapt to their surroundings and environmental changes survive and flourish. Likewise, companies and organizations must be able to adapt to change to stay competitive.
#3. You either die a hero, live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
In many instances, a person will need to do something that goes against the morals they have been taught when they were young. Some people overcome their inner demons and become heroes; while others give into temptation and become villains. The key is knowing when it is time to stand up for what you believe in and when it is the better option to go against what you think is right.
#4. I am not sure that there is any precise formula for success, but then again, I’m not sure that there is any other formula for success.
There is no formula for success. I think the only thing you can do is to be as good as you can be, and hope that people like it.
#5. Growing up might be a good thing, even if feels hard sometimes.
When you’re a kid, there’s a lot of pressure to grow up faster. But when you grow up, you get to do things that kids don’t get to do. You can travel the world, have a job, and be in charge of your own life. Growing up might not always be easy, but it’s a good thing in the end!
#6. The past can’t be changed, but you can change your future by making smart decisions now.
The past is the past. Nothing we can do will change it, but we can change how our future turns out by making smart decisions now. With the right actions and habits, we can make our lives more enjoyable and rewarding.
#7. It’s okay to say no when you need to take care of yourself or put yourself first for a change?
It’s natural to sometimes feel overwhelmed or that you can’t say no. We’re all overcommitted. However, it’s important to take care of yourself and put yourself first from time to time. Saying yes every time will only lead to burn-out and a feeling of being trapped in a cycle of endless obligations.
#8. Writing down everything that happened during the day will help me feel better at the end of it all and help me see what I’m grateful for!
The main advantage of this technique is that it helps with focusing on the positive aspects of the day. It also helps in boosting self-esteem and improving mood.
The downside is that it might be too hard to remember all these details, which can result in a lot of frustration when you are trying to recall something, but then realize you were not paying attention when it happened.
Conclusion
I learned a lot about myself and who I am as a person. It was an emotional year. I’ve learned to be more self-critical and introspective if I want to grow and improve. The hardest lesson for me this year is the importance of self-care.
